In its commitment to increase access to training and to open up training opportunities to individuals across the Mauritian population at large, the IVTB in collaboration with the Trust Fund for the Integration of the Vulnerable Groups had set up a Mobile Training Unit in 2004. This initiative aimed at bringing training facilities to the door step of a vulnerable group in particular, namely the out of school young adults coming from under privileged families.
This initiative aims at providing basic training of 150 hours in trades such as Plumbing and Pipe Fitting, Electrical Installation Works, Basic Sewing Skills, Basic Housekeeping and Craft Skills. The training as per the name of the project is run in refurbished air conditioned mobile containers equipped with the appropriate tools and equipment.
Training is conducted on a half day basis in two batches of ten trainees each, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
Initially, Training was run for two cohorts of a total of 32 trainee at Pointe aux Sable and Ste Hilaire in Domestic Electrical Installation Works of whom 13 were female.
Inspired on this experience, the IVTB in collaboration with the TFSIVG elaborated a project wherein five additional mobile training units were set up in January 2007. The capital budget of Rs 1.84 million was provided for by the TFSIVG whereas the recurrent budget was funded by the IVTB. Training which started on 16 January 2007, has been conducted in the following two trades namely Domestic Electrical Installation and Basic Plumbing and Pipe Fitting in the following localities:
Poste De Flacq; Gros Cailloux; Camp Diable; and Bel Ombre.

Fifty five (55) trainees have completed their training programme which was implemented and monitored by the three training centres of the IVTB, namely:
Prof B S Upadhyaya Training Centre; Surinam Training Centre; and La Tour Koenig Training Centre.
A third run of the programme has been planned at the following localities namely:
Camp Diable; Gros Cailloux; Beau Vallon; and Camp Ithier.
Out of these, training has already started at Camp Diable and Gros Cailloux on 7 May 2007.
