The Engineering Training Center
Founded in September 18th, 2000, Shanghai JiaoTong University Engineering Training center was set up for the purpose to meet the need for cultivating creative and talented undergraduate and graduate students. The buildings of Training Center covers about 9500 m2, with academic and special training office, technical service office, research groups, electronic experiment lab, creative practice lab, advanced manufacturing lab and so on. All of the labs are well equipped with multimedia computer network and workstation including hundreds of inter-linked computers, robots, numeric lathes, and electrical discharge machine forming wire-Cutting Machine etc.
The total assets of the training center add up to 15 millions Yuan, having 70 teaching and education staffs.
The training center was established to bring up students with sound engineering background and versatile technical ability. The aim of the center is to build up one of the best engineering training base of the world and set a good example as a leading training center among Shanghai universities.

Up till now, the training center has already built up four labs including Electrical & Electronic Lab, Creative Practice Lab, Mechanical Manufacturing base, and Advanced manufacturing center. In additional, it contains a large-scale networking computer center, covering 300 m2, multimedia classrooms covering 100 m2 and an exhibition hall covering 100 m2. And many industrial robots, programmable logical controllers (PLC), servo motors, DSP data collectors have already been set up and put into use in the intelligent control course.
The Mechanic Manufacturing Lab:Intelligent Control Workroom
The lab has well-established equipments to support the undergraduate teaching program, such as lathes, shaving horses, millers, and grinders. With detail instructions, all the students can have a good out-line and overview of all basic manufacture systems and well grasp good techniques in all material processing platforms.
The Electrical & Electronic Lab: The
lab includes electric circuit system, stimulation of installing, self-making
SCM, wireless radio making, and programmable logical

controller.
It mainly introduces most essential methods of experiments and means
of practice to students. And lay the solid foundation of advanced research
activities or postgraduate studies.

The intelligent control courses give detail introduction of motors, single chips, programmable logical controllers, pc (computer), sensors etc. Students will have opportunities to exert their own creativity and learn how to control all these instruments.
The Creative and Practice Lab:Students Using Wire-Cutting Machine
The lab concentrates on digging out the students00creativity and helping students to build up a real industrial platform. By means of special training, not only can they have good knowledge of CNN, technical manufacturing and automation, but also they have much wider engineer view.
Advanced Manufacturing Technology Lab: It
is the Engineering Training Center that both builds excellent base for
teaching and studying and provides good chance to students for designing
undergraduate thesis, conferences, and research activities. The exhibition
opens and welcomes to all students and teachers. All the achievements,
awards and prizes have been being on show. The flute playing robot,
smart monkey and wielding robotic system are all the prizes won by students
in engineering competitions.

The Course Reform:Robotics Control Training
The engineering training center has five teaching modules including mechanic manufacturing, electrical and electronic experiments, advanced manufacture, creative practice and intelligent control. The courses have been compressed while more practical modules set up. The wire-cutting machine, electrical discharge forming machine, CNN and creative practice are all newly added programs. The reform has also made excellent advantages for interlink between numeric lathe and computer network. Many undergraduate course profiles are also under reform. Some textbooks such as 00lectronic spark00 00ego models00have been edited and published. The textbooks of 00lectronic practice00 00ireless radio installing00and 00asic theory of programmable controller00are all edited by lecturers. Recently, we are going to have a new program of 00CM systems00
In order to carry out the reform thoroughly, more than 100 lecturers have set up a group to develop the wire-cutting machine, electrical discharge forming machine, creative models, robots, DSP data systems etc.
