in Taiwan00/b> Purpose of training programme:

The Ministry of Education in Taiwan, in cooperation with the EU, continues to implement the 00U Officials Mandarin Training Programme00in 2008. The Ministry will provide grants to encourage EU officials to receive Mandarin training in Taiwan and to have opportunities to gain a better understanding of Taiwan00 economy, educational system, science and technology advances, political systems and culture.

Types of training programme: Short-term training courses: 

Length: Two weeks in one session from August 2 to 17, 2008.

Quota: 10 grants.

Benefits: One round-trip airfare ticket, local accommodations and free training.

Long-term training courses:

Length: Duration of the sessions would be 2 months, 3 months, 6 months or 1 year, between September 2008 and August 2009.

Quota: 3 to 18 grants.

Benefits: a stipend of NTD 40,000 (ca. 850 euros) per month and free tuition.

Eligibility criteria:

EU full-time officials, contracted employees, detached National experts.

Content of training courses: Short-term courses: The Ministry of Education in Taiwan will design special 2-week training courses according to the participants00Mandarin skills, to introduce, in Mandarin, Taiwan00 history, geography, and culture.  There are related extracurricular activities. Long-term courses: the participants might apply for the Mandarin courses at university-affiliated language centres in Taiwan.  Application documents: Application form CV One letter of reference from working unit. Application procedures and Selection timetable:

Applicants should submit their application to the Cultural Division of Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium before April 30, 2008. They will be informed of the selection result before June 12, 2008.
