Raise awareness of open source tools at a variety of levels:  
policy, management, technical staff and end-users. Users and decision-makers of women's NGOs 1. Discuss the challenges facing women's organisations in adapting FOSS 1. Conduct group discussion. 1. Response & Feedback 9 2. Provide easy access to open source tools.   2. Develop case study/strategy for effective migration to FOSS 2. Provide good case study, a guide or template for developing a migration strategy, and a schedule of expected daily outputs. Throughout the training days, the participants will develop the strategy document based on a daily schedule of tasks or output. The trainers will serve as consultants for the participants, who are expected to work on the document after lab/classroom session ends in the afternoon. Disseminate some tools to participants; Also link and establish relationships between participants - technies and users - with a view to a longer term collabortion and narrowing the gulf between techies and users 10 3. Develop skills among end-users, technical staff and potential open source developers.   3. An overview of OpenOffice.org, Impress and browser software (Mozilla, Firebird, etc), -desktop as well as server side. 3. ??? 3. Output: Each participant is expected to have more awareness of the some FOSS desktop solutions that their organisations could consider. Part of handouts are CDs with FOSS software 11 4. Ensure the ongoing development of support and training materials.   4. Catalyse relationships between participants in track 1 (techies) and track 2 (users) 4.As part of developing technology plan, Track 2 participants are to consult with Track 1 participants on potential FSS solutions to their needs 4. Gradual building of relationships between women users and techie support. Consultation reflected in the technical details of the participants' draft technology plans 12 5. Develop capacity for planning and decision-making around implementing open source solutions, including an awareness of factors such as total cost of ownership.   5. Use a technology planning exercises and roughly follow process  that can guide participants through the process and discussion. Hands-on technology planning interspersed with inputs on FOSS philosophy, IPR issues, gender and ICT issues, and a special focus also on information management and CMSes. 5. Making a Case: Participants to present their migration strategy     16 Build a team of women trainers and ICT support providers that can provide women00 organizations with onsite and online technical and decision support in the area of FOSS. Track 1 only Track 1 participants Technical/hands-on training, LINUX installations, OpenOffice.org etc   17 Set up an open source training facility at Women'sNet     Track 1 participants - as part of their training - will be installing dual boot system and getting training facility operational as part of their training. Operational training facility with dual boot installation. 18 Support content sharing/pooling among Southern African women's organizations using open source tools by  
 
o Establishing an APC ActionApps server for the region at Women'sNet  
o Providing training for women's organizations in the region in using APC ActionApps to build online content  
o Creating templates for easy-to-use automated web sites for women's organizations  
o Strengthening women's networking and information sharing on specific content areas, including women's and participatory budgets, through strategic use of open source and APC ActionApps  
  Raise awareness of information management within CSOs, databases, content development, content sharing. 1 day review of CMSes, RSS feeds, and ActionApps. Demonstrate ICT policy portals and the WLR initiative sites.  Provide hands-on training on ActionApps, using templates develop for the trainees. PROBLEM: How do we get access to a training facility when the women'snet one is in use by Track 1 participants. Response and feedback 19 Support the migration of these organizations to an open source software environment       Track 2 participants to develop a technology plan that incorporates a migration strategy. 20 Empower women00 organizations to make informed decisions about strategic ICT use, in particular about the use of open source tools     Technology planning template and exercises spread over the week of the workshop. Presentation of technology plan on final day. 21 Establish and support a community of practice for trainers and ICT support providers that work with civil society organizations, particularly women00 organizations, in the use, training and support of FOSS tools.  This community of practice will be a platform or knowledge and experience sharing.   Maximise interaction between Track 1 and Track 2 participants; Also Women'sNet (post workshop) to facilitate networking between technical support providers and women's organisations in the region. Track 1 participants to serve as consultants to Track 2 participants.   22 Build awareness of open source tools among Southern African women's organizations   Review of FOSS issues - philosophy, politics, IPR issues, arguments for and against FOSS; as well as tools Symposium on Day 1 Response and Feedback.
