VERMONT CATAMOUNTS VERMONT HEAD COACH KEVIN SNEDDON Opening Statement: First and foremost, I want to congratulate Boston College on winning the championship. I thought they played a fantastic game and certainly played quote well down the stretch here. I certainly want to give Jerry York and his staff and their student-athletes all the praise. They certainly deserve it tonight - they played fantastic.
Im just so proud of our team, not only for the way they competed tonight, but for the entire season. Theyre a tremendous group of young men that I had the pleasure of working with. This program is heading in a great direction. Were certainly going to miss a student-athletes like Mark Lutz and the rest of our seniors, but they have left their legacy here. Theyve had a great four years. Obviously, theres a lot of tears and emotion in the locker room right now, and thats because of all the hard work they put in throughout their career. Again, I was very pleased with our effort. Unfortunately, we couldnt convert on a lot of opportunities early on, but their goaltender played fantastic, as did ours all weekend. That was really the difference in the game.
On inability to convert in first period: I thought our first 10-15 minutes might have been the best Ive seen our team play offensively. We had tremendous jump in our legs and played with a lot of emotion. We did a lot of things really well. We found ourselves in situations where we had odd-man rushes, which Boston College doesnt give up too often. When we had those opportunities, I think we had to capitalize. I think that was the difference in the game.. If one of two of those goes in, its certainly a different game. It was frustrating that when we had those opportunities, (John) Muse made the save or we shot wide, and they buried their opportunities. Thats the sign of a great team.
VERMONT SENIOR CO-CAPTAIN MARK LuTz On approach to game and BCs experience: Thats something we didnt try to focus on too much. We wanted to focus on what we had to do . We know theyre a great team with a lots of experience, but we just wanted to take things one step at a time. Tonight was just one more step. We just tried to keep it simple, work our hardest, and see what we could get out of it.
On missed first period scoring chances: It definitely put us down a little bit. We had chances to get some sparks there and get going, but unfortunately, we werent able to convert. Im sure it would have helped us our in the second and third periods, but they were the better team tonight. Thats all there is to it.
On goal at end of second period: To put them up 3-0 was a bit of a dagger. We had to stay positive in the locker room and come out in the third, but we werent able to muster up quite enough to get ourselves back in the game.
On BC PK: Theyre very aggressive team that can frustrate you. We werent able to get a whole lot going. We had a few looks in the third period, but we werent able to generate much on the power play. We knew they were going to come hard and we werent able to break them as well as we thought they could.
