Summary
I have worked in microinsurance for the
past seven years as a researcher and project manager. My contracts involved
the management of data and data collection as well as management of
field workers. I have worked as a researcher on many of the key global
microinsurance projects to date including the global survey of microinsurance
in the world's 100 poorest countries; insurance and long term contractual
savings for the poor in South Africa; and Agricultural Microinsurance
for the Poor.
I am seeking short-term contract assignments.
Education History
1994-1996: I was registered for
an MA at Wits University, which I was awarded with distinction.
I was awarded a Human Sciences
Research Council (HSRC) Scholarship and a Post-Graduate Merit Award.
Research Topic: The Internal
Dynamics of "Small" media Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs)
in South Africa.
1992-1993: During 1992 and 1993
I completed an Honours degree in Industrial Sociology at Rhodes University.
I was registered as a part-time student.

in Economics and Industrial Sociology.

Researcher: Agricultural Microinsurance
for the Poor research 00tasks were to develop bibliography for web-based
database; co-ordindate between authors; assist with overview document.
Project Manager: Microinsurance landscaping
survey - tasks were mostly to manage the project schedule; track sub-contractors;
oversee milestones and outputs; compile info for inclusion in master
database and project communications.
Researcher: Long-term contractual savings
and the poor - tasks were to manage the research process, including
two teams of fieldworkers; conduct internet research; input and analyse
data; archival research; writing sections of the final report; editing.
Part-time administrator: Co-ordinating
the programme for short-courses as well as editing and writing for their
website.
Research into intermediary mechanisms
for selling and servicing of insurance products to low-income people.
Researcher: Conducted Perception Survey
in City Deep area of Johannesburg on the views of businesses and property
owners of municipal services and business operating conditions.
Researcher: Developed training materials
and manuals for SA Tourism.
Researcher: Developed a database for
the Johannesburg Property Company on buildings and vacant stands in
the inner city.
Researcher: Prior to the World Summit
on Sustainable Development I was contracted to develop training materials
for "on-the-ground" personnel. I also assisted in co-ordinating
the training of council officials and tour guides prior to the Summit.
Researcher: Contracted by Crafts Council
to gather information for Craft Directory.
Researcher: Conducted research into funerals
and funeral policies available to economically disadvantaged people
in SA - part of broader ILO-funded project.
Researcher: Conducted research into micro-finance
in SA and access small entrepreneurs had to finance in public and private
arena.
Fieldworker: Conducted fieldwork in Zolani
township, Ashton, on the savings habits of seasonal workers.
Consultant: Research and prepare presentations
to the Task Group on Government Communications.
Worked as assistant to the advisor to
the MEC completing mostly management and administrative tasks associated
with supporting the various programme and project management.
Tutor: Sociology I's and II's
Monitored newspapers for bias in the
run-up to the elections.
Established a production and administration
cc. Edited and produced monthly in-house newsletters, tape transcriptions,
conference and workshop organisations, editing and writing.
Co-ordinator of Trainee Journalism Programme,
management of Training Unit as a whole. Also sub-editor for Ecna's news
service.
Employed part-time to establish and co-ordinate the Resource Centre for the SRC.
