The Old City of Jerusalem - a New Interfaith Solution I Dr Yitzhaq (Isaac) Hayut-Man, cyber-architect. the Academy of Jerusalem ; The breakdown of the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians since 2000 proved that the Old City of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount are the ultimate peace-making issues. Neither the Israelis nor the Palestinians can yield the Old City to the other side - whereas it is clear that the Old City, including the Temple Mount, cannot he divided. Since the times of Abraham and the binding of Isaac, the Abrahamic peoples are bound to I the blessed but tortured City of Jerusalem and this binding prevents an agreement or compromise among them. The city that could have become the spiritual center for all of , humankind, remains divided and neglected, and the peoples of the Middle East are sinking in !I a morass of hatred and wars. i The Interfaith Solution: The Bible (and the Qur'an) designed this sacred Place, hint at the solution: the sacrificing of the natural desire for ownership over Jerusalem -I offering and consecrating it for the Holy One. If so, the whole Old City of Jerusalem should be elevated out of the political negotiations and declared "the City of God", a place dedicated to peace in our land and the whole world. The Old City within the Walls, with its Mosques (including those on the Temple Mount), Churches (including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre) and Synagogues (including the Western Wall), would thus return to its prophetic role, and become "A House of Prayer for all the Peoples" (lsaiah 56:7 and only then can it fully be utilized for the teaching of wholeness (implied in its name "Yoru-Shalem"). The Political Arrangement: If the Israelis and Arabs would agree to hand over the city between the walls to a new entity, a supra-national and multi-religious body composed of "Lovers of Jerusalem", from all over the world - the main stumbling block will be removed from the political process. But this will have to be a new entity, not one held by old political commitments and biases (e.g. the UN, the Vatican). This New Jerusalem entity would be charged with caring for the peace and welfare of the Old City of Jerusalem, and will operate in close partnership with the Old City residents. The Assembly of the New Jerusalem: The New Jerusalem entity will be assembled from all the different reference groups that have an affiliation with Jerusalem. These include at least the representatives of all the monotheistic religions - where the main divisions of every religion will be represented (Shiite-Sunni; different Christian denominations; orthodox conservative and reform Jews) - as well as members of any other religion that feels identified with Jerusalem and cares for its destiny. (For symbolic and procedural reasons, it is best to assemble a representative body modeled on the number 12 or its multiples. This will be a reminder of the Twelve Princes of Ishmael (Gen. 17:20: 25:16), the Twelve Tribes of Israel (Gen. 35:22), the 12 apostles of Jesus and the Twelve Gates of the New Jerusalem (Matt. 10, Rev. 21:12-14). We are seeking in this context assistance for building an Internet Games System that will facilitate locating all the varieties of Lovers of Jerusalem and their assembly into such an entity. This New Jerusalem Games System will facilitate the collection of light, love and commitment from the whole world for the City of God. Within this project there will be developed and operated a virtual educational-ritualistic facility of spiritual pilgrimage to "The New/Heavenly Jerusalem", which will adumbrate the operation of the entire Old City as a Universal Temple of Reconciliation.
The Jerusalem Games System (JGS): The Virtual Realization of the New Jerusalem. The High-Orl Partnership Enterprises (The HOPE) proposes an innovative concept and realistic design for a system of multiple-players Internet games, set at the Old City of Jerusalem and its celestial counterpart, the Heavenly Jerusalem. As multi-user Internet games are coming of age as a major form of global educational entertainment, Jerusalem provides an opportunity to engage millions pf participants in one of the greatest mysteries and adventures available to humankind, which is focused on the Holy City of prophecy, providing both an intricate and exotic realistic setting and an out-of-this world angelic environment. Participation will encourage personal growth as the players explore personal characteristics, experience the physical, historic and current social environments in Jerusalem while penetrating into a wide variety of spiritual realms. The JGS will allow participant teams to change, grow and interact as the game experience deepens, and even the character of the earthly environment may change in accordance with the penetration of the celestial qualities. In fact, as the pilgrimage progresses, the whole Old City may be progressively revealed and recognized as the prophesied Temple, fully functioning for human improvement, without the need to destroy the existing Old City. The JGS will cater for a great variety of participants in increasing stages of commitment: tourists, seekers of interpersonal contact, seekers of mysteries, "cyber Pilgrims" on a spiritual quest, "Visionary Builders" and peacemakers, to elected representatives for the Jerusalem Assembly (see overleaf). Events will range from "street fighter" scenes at the labyrinth of the Old City alleys, to various End-of-Days scenes and Messianic advents, but biased towards gradual constructive and reconstructive work of realizing the New Jerusalem via the building of character, of understandings and of communities. The JGS will also facilitate the assembly of the "Lovers of Jerusalem" (discussed above). The viability of the project will be enhanced by the operation of the virtual Old City, with its houses, markets and diverse places of worship as the global "Spiritual Mall" where the diverse branches of the "Abrahamic Religions" and worthy spiritual methods may promulgate and dispense their messages, and these may be applied and tested in the course of the games. A likely, though by no means assured, outcome of the game is the peaceful development of the whole Old City of Jerusalem into a global Temple of Reconciliation and Peace. In this configuration the Old City will use its inherent New Jerusalem pattern of entering the gates of seven concentric walls focused on the Dome of the Rock. Still above the city, the components of the Heavenly Jerusalem (including "The Sea of Glass", "The Temple of Light" and/or "The Radiant Earth") will emerge through the pilgrims' progress. Our games development partnership is unique in engaging the talents of the Associates of the Academy of Jerusalem, with eminence in interdisciplinary integration such as in cyberart, sacred geometry and human potential studies, and the most penetrating explorations of the mysteries of the Temple Mount. The unique interest of the project is already attracting media coverage (a major journalistic coverage of this project in Wired Magazine, Apr. 04).
