October 27, 2008NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY Career Services Dear Internship/Co-op Student:
NIU Career Services’ Student of the Month and Student of the Year scholarship award
program acknowledges outstanding NIU students who have completed a career-
related, internship or co-op work experience. Because you are currently participating
in an internship or co-op, you are eligible to apply for the Fall 2008 awards. Two
awards will be given.
Seven students are selected as Internship/Co-op Students of the Month throughout the scholarship year, January 2008 to
December 2008, as follows: Spring 2008—two awards; Summer 2008—three awards; and Fall 2008—two awards. In
February 2009, three of these seven students will be recognized as NIU Internship/Co-op Student of the Year - Gold,
Silver, and Bronze Award scholarship recipients for 2008. To receive a Student of The Year scholarship award, you must
be present at an awards ceremony held in April 2009 and be prepared to speak briefly about your internship/co-op
experience.
To be considered for this award for Fall 2008, you must submit the following materials to Diane Hart, c/o NIU Career
Services by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2008:1. APPLICATION completed and signed
2. WRITING SAMPLE describing your internship or co-op experience (see application for details)
3. EMPLOYER LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION - on letterhead from your internship or co-op employer (an e-mail or fax directly from them to NIU Career Services will be accepted)4. FACULTY LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION - on letterhead from an NIU faculty member, EITHER theprofessor supervising your internship or co-op class if you are receiving academic credit OR an NIU faculty
member in your major department OR any NIU faculty member who is familiar with your academic work (e-mail or
fax directly from them to NIU Career Services will be accepted)ELIGIBILITY: (1) You must be participating in a career-related, internship or co-op work experience during the 2008
scholarship award year, January 2008 to December 2008; (2) You may NOT be employed by NIU Career Services during
the scholarship award year or be related to a NIU Career Services employee; (3) Once you have submitted an application,
you will be eligible for consideration throughout the entire 2008 scholarship year; (4) To receive the awards, you must be
prepared to be a student spokesperson for NIU Career Services.
DEADLINE: All above materials must be received in Career Services by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2008.
No materials will be accepted after this deadline. Contact your references early and follow up by contacting Career
Services to see if the letters were received. Judging will be completed during the following week.
