Global Security Systems Contact: Matthew Straeb Vice President mstraeb@gssnet.us For Immediate Release Global Security Systems Awarded Groundbreaking Statewide Homeland Security Alert System for Mississippi Jackson, Miss. 00Feb. 27, 2006 00Global Security Systems (GSS) has been awarded a multimillion-dollar contract by the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security, in partnership with the University of Mississippi, to create and build a statewide emergency alert network. The system developed by GSS will allow text messages to be sent via FM radio signals (through Mississippi Public Broadcasting and other private FM broadcast transmission networks) to emergency responders in crisis situations. The statewide alert system is the first of its kind in the country. 00vents of recent years, including the Hurricane Katrina crisis, have shown that current emergency communication systems are not adequate,00said Robert L. Adams, president of Global Security Systems. 00SS00 expertise and experience with a proven system of single point to multipoint messaging, previously applied to a wireless information and paging system prior to the mass distribution of cell phones, is being directed to address the needs of a new digital Emergency Alert Network.00 Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour said, 00hen the attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001 took place, there was no way to let the responders know that the buildings were going to come down. Radios were clogged with traffic, cell phones didn00 work, and it was immediately apparent that a new means of emergency communications needed to be developed. Global Security has leveraged their 20 years of experience in the FM-based messaging technology area to provide our state with this solution.00 00t is critical that Mississippi develop this project since many areas have limited alert coverage and because of our vulnerabilities to natural disasters,00said Mississippi Homeland Security Director Edwin L. Worthington. 00SS00 system offers a redundant footprint at a fraction of the cost of most systems. Our ability to communicate simple but important and timely messages throughout the state during active emergencies is critical.00 GSS is a Mississippi-based company that uses a standard commercial FM receiver chip that can be inserted into pagers, smoke detectors, cell phones, PDAs, and other like devices to alert responders and provide vital information as a situation develops. Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) has agreed to partner with the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security and allow the use of its tower network as the backbone of the statewide alert system. Installation and operation of this system is anticipated to be in place by June 2006. # # # About Global Security Systems, LLC Global Security Systems is a systems integrator, service provider, and manufacturer of Homeland Security and natural disaster first alert systems.
