EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
Tacoma Public Schools provides regular employees with the following benefits:
00Variety of five health, two dental, basic life, vision, and long term disability.
00Optional coverage, such as short-term disability, long term care, additional life and accidental
death & dismemberment, is also offered at discounted group prices.
00Contribution of an extra $60 per month per employee in 2005-06 to the benefit trust (The
Sound Partnership).
00Vacation days may be accrued up to a maximum of forty (40) days. Thirty days can be paid
out upon resignation or retirement.
00Compensation on a per diem basis for extra pay, supplemental days, vacation, and sick leave
buy out.
00Twelve (12) sick leave days awarded annually, accumulated to annual work year not to exceed
180 days for sick leave buy-out.
00Professional development allowance.
00Wide variety of professional development classes offered to both certificated and classified
employees.
00Professional Certification courses offered in-district to teachers currently holding Residency
Certificates.
00First year support for new teachers, including a mentor and a variety of book resources.
00Support, including financial assistance and a facilitator, for those seeking National Board
Certification.
