JOB SUMMARY:
Assists in implementing a comprehensive Employee Assistance program through assessment, intervention, counseling, referral, prevention and education.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:
This is an experienced professional class, responsible for significant employee contact in the implementation of a variety of employee assistance and wellness programs and strategies. This class is distinguished from Employee Assistance Manager in that the latter has division management responsibility for all employee wellness/assistance programs and activities.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Designs, develops and provides information to County management, supervisors and employees regarding program policies, services and requirements. Conducts in-depth client assessments to determine available resources and depth and type of professional services required. Has programmatic responsibility for assigned employee assistance or similar public/court assistance programs. Provides crisis intervention and/or on going counseling as required for County employees and their family members. Facilitates community-based referrals, coordinates treatment and follows-up as required. Develops and conducts seminars, workshops and a variety of activities to promote employee wellness; locates contractors and/or volunteers to conducts and coordinate such groups and monitors such activities. Confers with managers and supervisors regarding problems that their employees may be experiencing. Plans and coordinates a variety of special projects related to area of assignment such as the annual County Games and Employee Health/Wellness Fair. Writes a variety of informational and educational materials, including materials for a periodic newsletter. Conducts a variety of analytical studies; develops and reviews reports of findings, alternatives and recommendations; prepares a variety of written materials. Maintains automated and manual records and files related to work performed; uses database and other programs to produce reports and listings. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. May direct the work of others on a project basis. Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; drives a personal or County motor vehicle to various work sites throughout the County.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
Principles, practices and techniques of assessment, counseling and case management; indicators of physical and emotional risk and intervention techniques and resources; applicable laws, codes and regulations; computer applications related to the work; standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment; record keeping principles and practices; correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation; techniques for understanding and effectively communicating with individuals of various cultures; principles and techniques of making effective oral presentations; principles and techniques of preparing effective written informational or educational materials; adult educational techniques; basic supervisory principles and practices.
Skill in:
Assessing needs of individuals and groups and providing effective assessment, intervention and counseling; planning, directing and reviewing the work of others on a project or day-to-day basis; interpreting, applying and explaining applicable laws, codes and regulations; planning and overseeing assigned programs and/or projects; maintaining accurate records and preparing accurate and timely reports; using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines; contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities; preparing effective written informational and educational materials; using tact, discretion and prudence in dealing with those contacted in the course of the work; dealing successfully with a variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone, often where relations may be confrontational or strained; making effective oral presentations to large and small groups.
Physical Demands:
Mobility to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment, and to drive a motor vehicle in order to visit work sites and attend meetings; vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.
Working Conditions:
Attend meetings outside of normal working hours; may be called out in emergency situations.
Licensing and Certification:
Possess a valid Nevada Class C Driver00 License. Possess or be able to obtain certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor in the State of Nevada. Possess or be able to obtain an appropriate license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage, Family and Child Counselor, Licensed Clinical Psychologist or other required certification in the State of Nevada.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor00 Degree with major course work in education, a social science, psychology, counseling or a field related to the work, AND two (2) years of professional level, direct service provision experience in the area of adult assessment, intervention and counseling, preferably in a workplace setting. Possession of an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be required for the necessary licensing.
