Project Management
StrategIT offers a Project Management Consulting Service as part of our Strategic IT
Planning (SIP) Portfolio. Our extensive experience in managing and implementing all sizes of
projects has proven that a well-defined project management methodology, when applied
effectively and consistently, provides numerous measurable benefits to our customers.
The failure rate of IT Projects can be alarming; per Gartner, approximately 74% of IT projects
fail, are late, or go over budget. Don't be a statistic.
The primary role of the StrategIT Project Management Consultant is Quality Assurance. To
accomplish this task, StrategIT project managers develop and maintain a project plan based
upon a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). A WBS is derived using their extensive
experience at task analysis and greatly facilitates effective project Risk Management. A
current copy of the Project Plan including a detailed project Communication Plan is delivered
on a regular basis to the project sponsor.
IQI00Methodology
StrategIT uses a process driven consulting methodology ( IQI00) which is derived from our
collective experience with implementing Business Technology (BT) projects involving large-
scale and complicated IT infrastructures. Our extensive success in managing and
implementing all sizes of projects has proven that our methodology is applied consistently
and effectively. The goal of using a project methodology is the elimination of defects from
projects. Not all projects can be performed to a zero defects standard, but when zero defects
are required and feasible, StrategIT succeeds when others fail.
StrategIT's IQI00 is a two-phase methodology incorporating six stages to all projects.
Project Management
Phase I (Project Development) is comprised of three stages that derive the critical
information required for proper Project Development. These three stages can be completed
concurrently, if necessary, to reduce the project schedule.
Stage 1 ( Assessment ) is comprised of a Current State Discovery, Requirements
Definition, and Gap Analysis effort that are performed to provide all available
information about our client's Business Technology requirements. This stage is used
to ensure that the Project Charter is aligned with the business' goals. Projects
executed without a proper Assessment have a high level of defects and usually fail to
meet expectations.
Stage 2 ( Planning ) is where the project (if feasible) is developed for implementation
by a project team. The Project Manager will lead an intensive effort to develop the
project team(s), preliminary project plan, budget requirements, risk management
strategy(s), schedule, communication plan, etc. This stage can be performed
concurrently with the design stage.
Stage 3 ( Design ) is a solution development effort which is often performed
collaboratively with our client's staff. We design and develop specific IT solutions
using technology and process re-engineering principles. As a result of our due
diligence, StrategIT provides essential project validation for our Project Sponsor
through both feature benefit analysis and financial Return on Investment (ROI).
Outputs from this stage include solution design documents, bill of materials, &
complete project plan.
Phase II (Project Implementation) is comprised of three stages that are completed
sequentially.
Stage 4 ( Test ) is the build & test stage of a project. A stringent Pilot Plan is run to
provide proof-of-concept for major project deliverables. The Project Team will focus
on risk mitigation during this stage and adjust the project plan, if necessary, to ensure
the project is deployment to the defined design standard.
Project Management
Stage 5 ( Implementation ) is the quality assured execution of all actions or
operations required to deploy Project deliverables per Plan. This stage puts the
solution(s) into the production environment including all management or
administration requirements. This is sometimes called the cut over.
Stage 6 ( Monitor ) is integral to any project's success and therefore, built into the
Project Plan through application of our methodology. Mechanisms are put in place to
ensure the deployed solution(s) can be operated and maintained. Knowledge
transfer and project documentation, usually started earlier in the methodology, is
completed here.
