(Req # part-00039288)

Responsibilities:  Disease Area: Breast cancer, ovarian cancer and malignant mesothelioma.     Research Projects:   a) Tumor Stem Cell Epigenome: This is a highly collaborative project that is designed to identify breast tumor stem cell-specific histone modification and DNA-methylation patterns and map transcription factor networks that regulate tumor stem cell phenotype.   b) Heat Shock Proteins (HSP): This project is designed to examine regulation of tumor stem cell biology by Heat Shock Proteins (HSP) and its influence on breast cancer phenotype in collaboration with a renowned HSP lab.   c) Development of Culture Media: Our laboratory has specific expertise in developing chemically defined cell culture media specially designed to grow normal and malignant human epithelial and stem cells.   d) Systematic Genotype/Phenotype Correlations: This project is designed to map the oncogenic pathways that cause malignant behavior in genetically engineered malignant mesothelioma cells.   e) Analysis of Cell-of-origin/Oncogene Cooperation: This project is designed to determine the cell origin of different human breast and ovarian carcinomas.     Relevant References and Publications:   a. Ince TA, et al. Transformation of distinct human breast epithelial cell types leads to different tumor phenotypes. Cancer Cell 2007;12 (2):160-170.   b. Team finds way to create cancer stem cells.
