Doing a webpage can be scary, but it is really very simple. If you can do e-mail, use Microsoft Word or Excel, or any other programs that require you to add text, images, and change the color of the text, then you can create a webpage.  The hardest task of doing a webpage is not the start-up, but keeping it current and up-to-date. This hand out is a basic instructional tool to help you create a website. You may still require more information.  Below is a list of websites and other places to go for help. 00/span> Microsoft Office Online. This is a free training online. Please visit AYSOSHARE.org for the link (It will be located at webpage design). 00/span> www.tutorialized.com. This is free training online. 00/span> Public Library 00/span> Book Store 00/span> Search the internet 00/span> Find a parent or volunteer to help design or teach you how to design a website. There is a lot to learn on how to create a website and it cannot all be covered in this handout or Section Conference course. Just be patient and TRY to have fun!!! Getting started Step 1: Selecting a domain name. The domain name is the most important thing to let people know how to find your web site.  You will need to purchase your domain name from a web hosting company.  The yearly fee for a domain name ranges from around $8.00 to $15.00. Here are some examples of typical AYSO Domain names: www.AYSO123.org,  www.aysodelcity, www.soccerdelcity, etc... There are thousands more. I suggest you and your board come up with a few ideas, then make it a board decision and vote on a domain name. Keep in mind that you don't want a domain name that is too long. For example: www.aysosoccerregion1234 Step 2: Choosing your web hosting company. The web hosting company takes the site Getting Started Create A New AYSO Web Site Getting Started Page 1 What You Will Need Page 1 and 2 AYSOSHARE Page 2 Site Structure Page 3 Folder And Sub Pages Page 3 Inserting Hyper Links Page 3 Inserting Pictures Page 4 Preview In A Web Browser Page 4 FrontPage Screen Page 5 Index What You Will Need To Start A Web Site A Step-by-Step Guide AYSO Section Conference 2007 Continue on page 2 Page 2 Create A New AYSO Web Site that you design and posts them on the internet, allowing       the world access to your site.  (See diagram on right.) Web hosting is the most expensive part of creating a website. It is a good idea to buy your domain name from the same company you choose for hosting. There are thousands of  companies that provide web hosting. Below are three companies that offer web hosting services: 00/span> www.bluehost.com 00/span> www.gandi.com 00/span> www.webhosting.yahoo.com These companies will sometimes give you a free domain     name for a year. year.  They also provide tech support for uploading your page, e-mail service, FTP uploading, and possibly FrontPage support.. Step 3: Choosing a software program. You will need to purchase a program to help you create your web pages. These can be found at your local electronic store or online at e-bay.  I suggest using FrontPage, but there are many options to choose from.  Below are a few popular programs: 00/span> Dreamweaver 00/span> CoffeeCup HTML Editor 00/span> www.webhosting.yahoo.com (This site offers  free software.) **** If you need to save money on software you don't need the most current version, you can buy older versions on e-bay or other online companies for much less than the cost of the most current programs**** Step 4: Creating your web site. Your home page will have to be called index or main (You will have to ask your web hosting provider). You can go to www.AYSOSHARE.org for basic AYSO website templates, or you can have fun and be creative. Step 5: Uploading your web site.  This is where you transfer your files to your web hosting provider. Most hosting companies will provide a free service.  If they don't, you can use Coffeecup HTML Editor for free. Step 6: Keeping your website up-to-date.  You want to have the most up-to-date information possible on your site . If you have dates or events on your web site, be sure to remove them after they are finished. Good luck *Remember to have your board help you with ideas and items placed on your website.* If you need website templates, files, or documents, please visit AYSO's unofficial website to help volunteers get the files they need. On this website you will find examples of  school registration flyers, schedules, ref and coach administrator documents, CVPA documents, and much more. Sketching out a structure before creating a site in FrontPage can save you lots of work later. Once your site's goal is defined, you'll probably be eager to start designing your site using FrontPage, right? Not so fast. We recommend sketching out the structure of your site beforehand,          as shown here. Use a pencil and paper (or a diagramming tool, like Microsoft庐 Visio庐) to draw boxes for pages and arrows for links. Remember to keep your goal in mind as you do this. This is essentially the process of creating a visual outline. And it will save you a lot of time to do this on paper before your site is constructed. Just think, it's easier to erase a few boxes and start over than it is to delete and rebuild pages in an already-built web site. Site Structure Page 3 AYSO Section Conference 2007 Folders And Sub Pages You will need to organize your web site so you and your region's next web master can find files and images. Just like files on your computer, you need to create folders to keep track of the location of your files. Below are a few examples of folders used: Info: You will want to store all sub pages here (schedules, contacts, directions and ect.) Images: Region logos, pictures or other images Registration: Registration flyers and other files Tournament: Documents and other information about tournaments Schedules: This folder is where you will store your season schedules          Sub pages are web pages that are linked from your home page.  For example, when you go to www.soccer.org that is the home page.  If you click a link and go to the Section Conference page, you are now going to a sub page. You will need to hyperlink (See below ) from your home page to your sub pages. It's easy to add hyperlinks to your pages by using FrontPage. The illustration here shows you how to get started.  (See diagram     1 for help.) 1.  First you select either some text or a picture. 2. Click the Insert menu00nd then click Hyperlink. 3. Look for URL. This is where you will want to type your web address. 4. If you want to link to a sub page, then click on the folder with the magnifying glass. 5. Select the file (sub page) you want to link from the home page. 6. If you want to create a link to an e-mail address, then you want to use the envelope. **Tip   The keyboard shortcut for inserting a hyperlink is CTRL+K. If you have trouble remembering this, just remember    the last letter in hyperlink -- the "K". Inserting Hyperlinks Step 3 Step 4 Step 6 Diagram  1 Page 4 Create A New AYSO Web Site A quick way to preview your web page is to switch to Preview view. However,      note that Preview view is based on how Internet Explorer will display your page. If you want your page to accommodate other browsers, make sure to install them, and then preview your pages by using the Preview in Browser command.  (See Diagram 5.) After you're done filling your layout with text, pictures, and hyperlinks, you should always use the Preview in Browser command to make sure that it looks okay in a Web browser. (See Diagram 6.) Preview In A Web Browser Inserting Pictures Picture this: a page with no pictures. What? That's no fun. Nowadays, pictures      are pretty mandatory in keeping your audience's attention. To insert a picture that you already have on your computer, click the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From File. From there, you find the picture on your hard drive.  (See diagram 2.) After you have inserted your pictures, you need to check the web page load time located on the lower right side of FrontPage.  (See diagram 4.) You will need to right click and change the setting to 56.6. You don't want your load time to be over 60 seconds on the 56.6 setting. If your web page load time is over 60 seconds, typically your pictures are too large. You will need to adjust their size. FrontPage can make the picture smaller through  "auto thumbnail", making the load time quicker . You can change the setting on auto thumbnail by clicking on Tools, pointing to Page Options, and clicking on Auto Thumbnail.  (See diagram 3.) Another way to make an image file smaller is to use a program that will change the file's Size, or the resolution of the image.
